About Artist
My practice lives at the intersection of textile art and figurative painting. Working with multi-strand acrylic yarns, I crochet "pixelated portrait paintings" where my subjects embody the deeply human tendency to appear unbothered while privately carrying unspoken weight. At its core, this is a meditation on mental health and the "beauty" masks we wear. My current work explores floral surrealism through poetic portraits of African women housed within bold yet delicate floral forms. Each crocheted thread embodies resilience, contradictions, and the quiet labour of seeking wholeness. I am drawn to the tension between softness and resistance, beauty and burden, hence, my practice functions as both social commentary and sanctuary; an inquiry into identity, mental wellness, and the interior lives of the African people As such, I am committed to expanding crochet as a critical, living medium capable of bearing complex human experience.
